I spoke last month about the power of imagery, the dominant language of the subconscious mind and the brain and I want to expand further now into some practical ways you can begin to interrupt the negative loops so many people are in like stress, anxiousness, worry and fear. Science is showing that we now experience a quick nervous system response to stimulus, shortening our ability to actually process out what we are perceiving. We’ve trained our nervous systems to respond very fast with a fight or flight response and we’ve trained our brains to expect negativity!
Studies have shown that stress begins to shrink the hippocampus and inflame or enlarge the amygdala. The hippocampus being the part of our brain responsible for learning, memory encoding, memory consolidation and spatial navigation. With impaired spatial navigation we can connect a dot there to the potential for panic attacks and why they have increased 40% over the past 5 years!
Did you know that people in stress are much more likely to shop? Covid increased online shopping to 1.7 Trillion dollars! That’s 609 Billion more than two years before and 44 % of people said their stress significantly increased over the past 5 years.
In addition, there is so much more to discuss on how to manage stress, which comes down to understanding personal power. What it is, how to develop and maintain it, without it requiring any changes from others or the world around you.
